I poked around in the Docs for a couple of hours and came up with nothing. I too thought I saw it somewhere in a book, but I must have been confusing it with the return cursor location that will pass the field name back to the program. One would think that if the field name can be passed back, that the system would be smart enough to accept the field name for positioning the cursor. But alas... I am not objectionable to using the wrapper, I had even thought of writing something myself and then passing it on. Since it is already written, I am going to as for it and then put it in my bag of tricks. I'm almost certain I did exactly this at another site a few years ago, but darned if I can find it in the documentation anywhere, either in the RPG manuals or the DDS manual (V4R4 flavor). I'm think it involves using a Program-to-System field, but the docs show no such example. I also looked at OVRATR, but that too, was inconclusive. The technique we used may have been using the QdfRtvFd api that Rick refers to, but I don't remember having to go to that extreme.
