Big Duh on my part. Guess it was because that the input file contains the
new field length that will be throughout most of the system and the output
file that is being built in this program is the exception to the rule.
Although when you get right down to it, it does not really matter which way
it is done as long as the desired result is accomplished. The other reason
for the question is that it has always bugged me that the output files could
not have their fields renamed and was hoping that this fact had changed
since the last time I tried to do it.

I guess you want to rename the field in the output file because an input
file has a field with the same name but a different description. Why don't
you rename the field in the input file?
