Records are read from one file and written to another. The reason for the rename in this program is because the size of the field in the input file was increased and the output file will not be. Truncation of the data in the output file is O.K., so we are not changing the actual field name in the DDS, just in the program so that we can move the data to output file keeping the same field name with different sizes. Not my decision, but I have to modify the program. Just out of curiosity, why would you do this? The renamed field would only stay renamed within the program while it was active and records from output only files are not available in the program anyway. At least that's how I thought it worked.
