  As I mentioned, consultants are in a bind when it comes to these 
situations.  Foolishly, companies often skimp on the horsepower and tools 
when it comes to the hired help, where it counts.  They end up on some VP's 
desk that will look at his screen 20 minutes a day...

  Licensing, connectivity, security (even if it's only perceived), 
specialized needs (i.e. barcoding) all make it impractical for consultants 
to lug around their own "toolbox."
