Don't know about dBase, but Clipper can do it: if FILE->&Field. == 'xxx' or: if &File.->&Field. == 'xxx' or better still: do case case valtype(&File.->&Field.) == 'C' Very useful for writing your own CPYF with *MAP/*DROP in Clipper. But for applications?
