If you have a UNIX box at your office you could ssh as a free VPN
solution.  You would have to have another unix box at home (I use linux
with tn5250).  ssh can create a secure connection between the two boxes
and then a VPN can be established.  It is simple and free.

I haven't worked with other solutions.  More info on what I suggest above
can be obtained from the VPN-HOWTO at www.linuxhq.com.
