I don't know about Paul, but as for me, I should point out three things: 1. User queues are NOT accessable by the QRCVDTAQ and QSNDDTAQ. So, the implication is that programmers, in the right environment, can be prevented from updating or removing entries from the queues and the queues then limited to "system software" type applications. I work in many environments where I operate as "system programmer" and need non-subvertable interfaces. User queues provide this to some degree as do user indexes and user spaces, all of which I use in combination. 2. The API's, for the most part, are STILL not ILE prcedures, but OPM program calls. The reason for this is that the API's, again for the most part, are MI programs. These programs can place entries on the queue with as few as, or fewer than 14 total MI instructions. 3. Yes, I would very much like to see "pure" ILE procedure calls for the API's, but I don't know if IBM could improve much on the performance of some of these OPM API's just by implementing them as such. The performance of the API's today is NOT usually a concern, the API's are used because of the performance implications of other temporary storage mechanisms or interface processes. -- =========================================================== R.
