We started RPG IV with the intention of having 3-d arrays. And much code was written to allow it. But schedule pressures squeezed out a few things, and the code has since languished. The current thinking is that the existing code won't make the job of adding 3-d arrays back in much easier since every affected place in the compiler will have to be looked at again anyways. It definitely won't make testing any easier. Back in the last enhancement poll, we had two items relating to multi-dim arrays: support in all opcodes, and support just in expressions. If the CF-Spec becomes popular, the latter option would make much more sense and would be much easier to implement. My guess would be that multi-dim arrays will be close to the top in the next enhancement poll. Cheers!
