Check out "Sort User's Guide and Reference," Document Number SC09-1826-00.
You may or may not like it.  It allows you to, among other things, sort a
file according to specifications you write in a source file.  The syntax is
arbitrary and the sort specs are hard to read unless you use it regularly.
You can do some things with it that are hard to do with SQL or a procedural
language such as sorting on a key built on any combination of bytes from a
file record, but for a simple sort, SQL is a lot easier.  People who have
been doing sequential I/O on unkeyed ordered files for a long time swear by
it.
