While you're at it, can you make the free-format chain op-code return a value to indicate success or failure? It seems to me that this would improve the chain operation even more... Something like: cf if chain(FILE: key1: key2) = -1 cf .... handle "not found" or "error" here... cf else cf ... normal processing here ... cf endif I know that you can do something similar with BIFs, but this would (in my opinion) be even more elegant.
