ITF is old but well and alive. To start it, use STRITF command. It requires some configuration, but it's very easy to use. I used it frequently to configure async modems from AS/400 - AT commands and all this stuff. Isn't there something like this on the 400? Couldn't she use this, in combination with a BBS package, (like Procomm) on a PC to get her data downloaded? Providing she has a comm line on her 400 and can scrape up an async modem. infosys@klements.com on 05/19/99 11:20:44 AM Please respond to RPG400-L@midrange.com@Internet To: RPG400-L@midrange.com@Internet cc: Fax to: Subject: Re: Data transfer Sherry... Perhaps I don't fully undetstand the situation, but, is there any reason why you couldn't just download these files using something like PC support or perhaps IDEAcomm's midrange client? (I know you can't use client access on a system that old) I know that with the IDEAcomm software, you can do S/36 files, because you can define a "view" of the file, telling the system which fields are in which places... You can then download them into a CSV formatted file (it might be called something else, like "variable length records" or something, depending on the software) which could be imported directly into Excel. I can't think of any way to do this using the tape drive. I guess if you've got compatible drives on both the PC and the AS/400 you COULD transfer it that way, but it'd almost DEFINITELY mean writing custom software on the PC to interpret the files. Using File Transfer would be a *LOT* easier. Hope that helps... Scott Klement Information Systems Manager Klement's Sausage Co, Inc.
