What language are you currently using? If you are running the original RPG/400, there are many books available to teach RPG III programmers how to use RPG IV. Just learning the new version of RPG isn't a big leap. Learning the ILE concepts takes a little bit more, but if you've had any experience with C programming, you're already familiar with many of the concepts, and you just need to learn IBM's names for them :) Try these links for books, CBT, etc: http://www.mc-store.com/ http://www.news400store.com/ You said that you want to take a step towards Client/Server and OO thinking? I'm not sure that learning RPG IV will do that for you. 1) You can do client/server programming in RPG IV, but most likely you're going to want to write your servers in RPG IV and write your clients in something on the PC, such as Visual Basic or Java. Learning these will be a much bigger jump fpr RPG programmers than simply learning the newer version of RPG. 2) ILE RPG/400 is not Object-Oriented. Learning it will not even teach you the basic concepts of OO programming. I'd recommend learning Java for this... You could also do C++ but a lot of C++ programs will fall back on C programming techniques, and end up non-object oriented programs. So, Java is usually a better choice for simply learning to use the OO paradigm. Thats my 2 cents...
