Juris, In a message dated 97-08-12 13:59:00 EDT, you write: <<snip>> > P.S. Could someone of you give a brief description of panel groups? Panel groups are a screen language written by IBM to be used exclusively by themselves, primarily for menus and help text. On one of the V2 releases (don't remember which one) of OS/400, IBM allowed all developers access to them. I don't use the menu functions myself, but I do use the help text quite a bit. Panel groups are a bit of a paradigm shift for long time 3GL programmers; however, once you grasp the syntax, panel groups are quite easy to use. The great thing about panel groups is that they support inheritance in a limited fashion. For instance, we created a help text dictionary that contains all of our commonly used elements (eg., F1=Help, F3=Exit, Item Number=a unique 15 digit number that identifies products within the system, etc.). When we create a panel group, commonly used fields and functions are included in it via the IMPORT command rather than re-keying them for every panel. When a change is made to the help text dictionary, there are no level checks or similar problems -- new verbiage automatically appears in every panel group that references the subject WITHOUT re-compiling!!! I like them a lot, and would recommend them to anyone... Regards, Dean Asmussen Enterprise Systems Consulting, Inc.
