ALL THE ABOVE ARE TO BE LEFT VARIED OFF!!!!
4) When we want to send a page, we change the CONNECTION NUMBER on the
controller to 'SST', '9' (to access the outside line), the pager number,
three '>', the numeric
message to be sent to the pager, then '#' (hangs up). I'm not sure what
the '>' does, but in
effect it delays long enough for the pager companies message to play. You
might have to play with this a bit. We tried commas, but they didn't work
for some reason.
5) Vary on the controller and pause the job for a short period of time - a
minute or two.
This is pretty archaic, but it does work. At a previous employer we used
Help Systems CONSOLE and ALERT products and I would highly recommend them.
You need an alpha-numeric pager to get the most out of them, but ALERT will
send the text of the message to the pager and can be used to send any
alphanumeric message to any pager using the AS400.
My question to anyone out there, how can I send an alpha-numeric message?
I know that ALERT called a different number, and I believe that we have
some PC software to send such a message, but I know that it can be done
from the AS/400. The question is - how???
