I'm not really trying to recover data. ÂI have a mirrored drive of the one that failed. ÂI just need to be able to update the registry. ÂCould that be done from a SpinRite boot disk? ÂI'm also a little concerned about a software product that hasn't been updated since 2004.

I understand about the CHKDSK errors, but I thought I'd mention the continual re-boot is one of the symptoms from the bad McAfee update from last week. ÂIf you happen to be using McAfee on that machine, try this out:

A friend's laptop appears to have been toasted by the McAfee problem. ÂIt would boot but did not have network connectivity, the task bar was missing, and you couldn't install new apps.

I'm not discounting the CHKDSK errors but they may be a symptom of an entirely different problem. ÂIf you haven't run CHKDSK in a while those errors could be old & unrelated to the problem you're having.
