Peter,

I've had it do the same thing with 2GB RAM and 40+ tabs open. Tabs seem to
be what causes the problem for me. I close it down and it takes awhile to
drop out of task manager but eventually it does. I've seen this behavior
with Firefox for over a year and through several different revs. It seems
like it has an issue with memory management that they have yet to get a
handle on.

Subject: [PCTECH] Firefox remains active after closing

Hi all,

as of a couple of days, I'm experiencing some strange stuff on my home PC
(3GHz P4 with 3GB Ram, WinXP SP2).

Every time I close FireFox 3, it stays active in Task Manager and eats up
most of my CPU.

Also, the PC will freeze (as in become totally unresponsive) after a period
of time.

I googled this, and several posts indicate a virus problem, however my AVG 8
cannot find anything wrong except for some tracking cookies.

Has anybody experienced this FF behaviour, and if so, found a solution for
it?

Thanks in advance.

Peter
