I would get the most you can afford, or that the company will let you buy.

Unless the price premium is huge, it is probably less than the future
(reduced) cost plus the labor and downtime costs of doing the upgrade
in 18 months. As a rule, paying upfront to eliminate a support "touch"
in the future is good practice.

This is less the case for our "personal" systems, because we don't pay
for our own time to install an upgrade. But the company has to pay a
tech (or you) to do the upgrade and has to pay for your lost time
while the tech is doing an upgrade. I give the same advise to
non-technical friends and family, who would have to pay the Geek Squad
or impose on me to do an upgrade.
