In the registration database for the hardware. It would most likely be in a
service that is getting started and it could be an invisible one. There are
tools that will allow you to see even the invisible ones. If you need one,
send me offline and I'll see if I can find my old links.

Thanks John - that is what I truly expected too, but like I said, I took the
hard drive out of the one problem PC and stuck it in another PC that was
connecting fine and got the SAME error and that surprised me ! I was
planning on just giving them that PC with their hard drive ASAP and figuring
out the problem latter. Much to my surprise the problem moved :-(

Where the heck would something like this be in the software config ?

It sounds like an undetectable error in the internal NIC card. I usually
take a pocket wireless NIC card and attach it, disabling the internal NIC.
If the wireless connects, then it is the internal.
