For security, you want to use WPA-PSK instead of WEP.  PSK = Pre-Shared
Key = A password.  Make the PSK long (at least 15 characters) & complex
& not related to the church; example "iG0tTh15From_mIdRang3!c()m".  You
won't have to type it every time; just when new devices are added to the
wireless.  

Also, since the devices using the WLAN are known, put in their MAC
addresses as an additional filter.  And change the SSID from the default
(but don't include anything that ties it to the church - something like
PrivateNetwork is good) and disable broadcasting the SSID.

A slight bit of security-by-obscurity would be to use all pre-802.11N
equipment.  Should work better over longer ranges and be faster and, as
there's not yet much equipment that talks 802.11N, the window for
attacks is smaller.  If you consider this, consider it for the
improvements that 802.11N brings and not for any pseudo-security
benefit.  N equipment will rise in popularity over the next year.

Leaving the door open for others to use your WLAN for Internet access is
very likely a TOS violation.  Not to mention it can slow your access
down if others saturate the link.  And serve as a gateway to your WLAN
for someone to place malware on the PCs.

Oh, be sure to change the router's admin password.

Lock it down.

Finally, pretty much all of the WiFi hardware vendors sell either range
extenders or high-gain external antennae.  Those may be necessary to
cover the distances you need.  To negate the shielding from brick walls,
place the antennae in windows or for more $ get external antennae.
