Joe, You have a point about the vested interest of the anti-virus companies. I hadn't thought of that before but thanks for giving me something else to keep me awake at night. <g> Personally, I think that it's great that they did a proof of concept that such a virus is possible. I also think that they should quietly take steps to catch such viruses, notify the authors, and not publicize that it's possible because that gives ideas to those who aren't interest in the concept as much as the real deal. Since OpenOffice is open-source that changes things a bit, but still... Does anybody read this the way I do? That basically the folks in the lab created this virus and are now warning us about it? What's even scarier is the strange wording "has not been sent out in the wild". I hope it was supposed to read "has not been SEEN out in the wild," becausw otherwise it certainly raises an interesting question. I've long said that antivirus companies have a vested interest in seeing viruses proliferate. The above sentence may just be a rather pointed Freudian slip, but still......
