I'll be honest with you, I am not that familiar with the instructions
you posted. But the last line said this for the "unsupported" install:

If you see message QSH005: “Command ended normally with exit status 0”
in the job log you’re all good. If not, consult /tmp/bootstrap.log.

Did you check the bootstrap.log? Anything of value there?

Indeed, that is probably how Kevin figured out what he did when he was
trying to help me. I probably showed him the log, and he followed some
leads from there. (I'm not 100% sure though. My memory of it is fuzzy,
and not too long after that conversation, my shop miraculously decided
to upgrade to 7.3, so it was all moot. For me. I should have kept
better notes in case someone else came along with the same problem.
It's just that it's hard to imagine shops that are slower than ours
when it comes to keeping their IBM i up to date.)

Not to be discouraging, but I think it will be hard to figure anything
out from the log without the kind of skills and knowledge that people
like Kevin Adler or Calvin Buckley have. At the very least, it will
probably be slow going, sifting through the bootstrap script and log
yourself.
