My authority only covers the i5 and I absolutely have SWMA and would not live without it even though I use it maybe once every couple of months. I view it like an insurance policy, I hope I never have to use it but if I do I'm glad I had it. I have asked the same question of the group that does have authority over the Windows world but they appear from the outside to rather say they need more hardware/software because what they have is too old (2-3 years on most of it) and causing the problem or are overworked and need more people, than say they don't know the answer and call for help.
I don't know if this attitude goes back to the beginning of this discussion (i5 users are "graying" (I like to say experienced)) and after working in IT for many years the "experienced" group knows that it is not an indication of one's inability to call for an experts help in solving a problem which is the attitude I see from a lot of younger IT employees (our Windows admins average age is in the high 20s - our i5 group is in the mid 40s)

PSS was not called. Our Windows admins (and Cisco admins) are in the mode of reboot now to get the service back, try to debug after the fact, make a call if it happens again. (and they have no PSS contract so are sometimes reluctant to call)
Why not? You do have SWMA, or not? Why not PSS contract? They're not
more expensive than SWMA, and are invaluable if you need help fast.
On the AD no user was effected since we run the recommended 3 AD servers. Server admins noticed via their monitoring software. They could not get to the server to see what was wrong (at least in any reasonable amount of time) since the CPU was in full use.
Ask your admins about EMS. It can help debugging a machine that does
not respond to keyboard input, RDP or RPC. I've found EMS an
invaluable tool for debugging a downed server.
