I'm sorry.  I thought you were suggesting that perhaps powerful people in
the government and military were engaging in activity contrary to the best
interests of the American people.  And that they were doing it in secret by
manipulating the press.

Interstingly enough, when I read what the word conspire means, I find that
to conspire is to engage in a secret agreement to do an unlawful or wrongful
act.

You can perhaps see how I was confused.
