That's how I found out about the 'debug' thing to clean a disk properly. I'd been through my 5th Dell tech in three weeks, trying to remove WinME and install Win98 on a reletively new box. I'd tried ME for about a month when I bought the box, but had a ton of problems, ending with the box completely disabled - no display drivers, no mouse support. It was a mess. I'd scratched the disk at least 7 times, but w98 woudn't install properly - don't recall exactly the problem now, but FINALLY I got a nice young lady who knew what she was reading from the call problem logs actually meant. She walked me through the 'debug' process and the whole thing went off without a hitch. That's the problem with a majority of phone support techs. they only know what they find in thier problem log books - if they don't find the exact problem you have, they find 10 or so 'similar' problems and walk you through those 'solutions' hoping one of them will do the trick - though most just compound the problem. ---original message---- Wills, Mike N. I have too many bad experiences to really say anything good about tech support, but I do know that there are good ones out there as well. rick -----Original Message----- From: Jeff Crosby I actually had a really good tech from Dell, even though what he suggested didn't work. That sounds strange, but he worked at it hard enough and informed me of enough that it got my brain working too.
