I'm reminded of a story I heard years ago in which the IT manager (or DPM
as we would have called him then) was showing the CEO around his busy
department. They poked their heads round the door of one office whose
single occupant, quite oblivious to the intrusion, was staring fixedly at
the wall in front of him.

"Who's that?" asked the CEO.

"He's my chief programmer," said the DPM.

"Why isn't he doing anything?" the CEO demanded.

"He's thinking."

"Well, I don't want him thinking," protested the CEO. "I want him writing
programs."
