Chuck,

Just heard from McLeod. Yes, there was a problem this morning with 800
numbers. Evidently, there is a central registrar of toll free numbers
that all numbers go thru. This company had problems this morning. I
don't remember the company name, but it was not Ameritech. They are
working again now.

<Chuck, What is your source for this? Is it Ameritech or all carriers?>

Heard just a little while ago that it is apparently AmeriSuck, uh,
Tech...

<You are on my list of "highly reliable" posters, but this is a rather
sweeping statement!>

Well thanks :-) (for the first part). Earlier this morning when I had
been told this, it was from
a BIG computer reseller (in Chicago). It apparently effected a big part
of the midwest and maybe
some east coast stuff from what some others said on Ignite/400...

<And I have sent an email to my phone provider (McLeod) asking for
confirmation/denial.>

We use them too for some stuff. It only effected 800, not 877's etc.

<Our phones have sure been busy this morning (that's a good
thing)...but much of the traffic is
direct dial (non-800) so probably doesn't fall into what you are
saying. And I have made one 800
call this morning with no problem...but that doesn't prove anything.>

I could got through to one in Texas but we (our buyers, etc.) were
having trouble with ones all
over the country. I apparently had something to do with an Ameritech
switch that allowed 800 #
calling out of certain areas, thus the confusion...

Chuck
