Check(FE) makes no difference to the display file
barcode scans and the screen waits for Enter as before

I'm not sure what the text is below - you can't do images online.
For most of our scanning programs, we have the display field set with Field Exit Required...
Then we have the scanner append the field exit (not the enter) after the scan.
This is your best avenue IMHO.
If this is the only or last field on the screen, you can also try adding an Automatic record advance to the display field.

when I scan my SSCC/GTIN Barcode I get

once I hit the key then the RPG complete the EXFMT and runs the code

We use zebra scanners almost exclusively... we have also used the Zebra 123scan to append an enter (or field exit) to the end.
We produce and scan GS1 barcodes (assume you mean GS1-128 with the SSCC?). I typically parse those in my programs that handle the UI (green screen or browser). I've never tried to do it with the 123scan software.

I have tried CR etc.... there is no ENTER in the separator fields
