Have you actually used an OA-RPG handler such as Profound UI?

Once a screen is converted, you can enhance it with Javascript to your heart's content.

I think that Nathan is especially referencing to the programming model of OAR.

Maybe he thinks that it might be as restricted as a classic DSPF - but that isn't the case with OAR - you can write as many record formats as you like, before presenting the "page" to the user.

Even the record formats type ("normal", SFLCTL, SFL, WINDOW) wouldn't count anymore - you could even use the same format for the list records as you use for the details.

My idea is, to just only use the record formats and their fields - even leave out all the conversion, as the result is mostly not what you want.

The only fixed point would be - that EXFMT is waiting for the user to "respond".
