Wait a minute there. "Let the 'template' decide which one to show" is a recipe for disaster for some possible scenarios where the indicator makes all the difference for what the information signifies. It might mean adding a positive number to an accounting ledger number versus a negative number.

You;d have to studiously rewrite the DDS or rewire the rendering and multiply your chances for snafus in the end result.

The going-forward only option sounds safer. You could appropriately rewrite the DDS and the programming first and only then convert. In fact in some cases that might be the right thing to do.

Same as above the "template" needs to know which indicator causes causes which field to be used.
