Hi Nathan,

In regard to the OA-RPG discussion, with all due respect, there may have been a business proposition for that,
<snip>

In our case the proposition is to create an open source solution - there are enough business solutions out there already.

<snip>
because the idea
of writing a "record" to the device, followed by reading a "record" from a
device is too constraining. For example, with browsers you will find times
when you want to embed multiple display panels in a single HTML page,
<snip>

No Problem - write multiple records out - EXFMT a "leading" record - read the other records back. Just like a DSPF.

But OAR isn't limited through DSP devices - that's no problem.

<snip>
use Javascript to toggle their display attribute to show and hide them,
rather than having a program on the server controlling what gets displayed
or hidden.
<snip>

Also no problem - embedd the JavaScript as you like - because we don't transfer any formating information from the RPG - only pure data - and some indicators. Exactly like with DDS.

<snip>
Under the OA-RPG paradigm, you
never really improve the user interface, you just add overhead to it!
<snip>

That's a fair opinion - but not necessarily the case - as the "product" doesn't exist right now, you don't know how it's evolving.

We can even try to embed a call-back mechanism - that calls a procedure in the application program asynchronous to the normal process - as our program is no longer running in an interactive job - it can be multi-threading.

The options are simply limitless.

Yes - I understand, this is not the "real thing" - this is not "web programming" - it's a try to

a) leverage OAR

b) transfer transactional business processes with less need to change and therefore less possible "points to break"

c) develop something as a community - where everyone can contribute

Maybe this leads nowhere - maybe it will be adopted be a lot of people. I really don't know - but I think it might be fun.

Kind regards,
Daniel
