What you've said about the following is true. I've tried to get IBM to
stop that. As a minor "security by obscurity" measure informing the public
the OS of your FTP server and what version it is running is not
kosher/halal. And, in some cases, can violate your NDA. See also:
SELECT *
FROM QSYS2.MESSAGE_FILE_DATA
where MESSAGE_TEXT like '%TCP/IP version%';

I suppose this is where some people go chasing squirrels and saying that
the "public" having access to unsecured FTP is the real problem.
