Sure enough, after about 90 seconds, the service ready message popped up.

Something's definitely not right here.

Now the question is why so long? If I telnet with port 23, the response is almost instant.

Next step would be to look out for job logs of the SMTP service itself. There can be a multitude of reasons. Maybe this is related to certificates for the SMTP server not being in place?
