System front panel shows normal:  01  B  N

so you would think the system is up and operational but not so.

Usual interface is at 10.10.10.202:  customer reports no access

Console is at 10.10.10.2:  pings-yes; using ACS we get SST signon prompt but user doesn't know valid SST profile/password

LAN console

can't get into DST via front panel 21 since user doesn't know valid SST profile/password

No SRCs on system LCD panel

Tried multiple IPLs.

Hi Jerry

it's not 100% clear what your situation is:

here's what I understand after a couple of reads:
- The system is active but has "gone down" and is not accessible via the
usual interfaces
- the console is also inaccessible (is it a HMC or LAN console?)
- to get the console accessible you tried to access DST via manual
mode/option 21 to get into DST
- you don't have an SST password to make any further progress

Are there any SRC's on the system at all ? Are you able to see the SRC
history ?

Radical, but have you considered IPL-ing the system - if you are dead in
the water this might help (consider any SRC's before proceeding with this)

System is down in normal mode so we can't access the system normally.

Customer doesn't know any DST password.

Thus DST.

Need to get into DST to IPL the system in console mode to see what's
going on.

Can't do a CHGDSTPWD.

Need to use DST option 21 on panel.

Sign on to IBM i as QSECOFR. Use CHGDSTPWD to set it to *DFT.

The log on as QSECOFR/QSECOFR and change the password. You can use SST
you don’t need DST.

Customer lost DST QSECOFR password.

Following these instructions on an 8202 P7 system from Larry Bolhuis

**********************************
Select manual mode from the control panel (01 B M)
Select function 21 and press Enter
control panel display is now 21 00
Log on as QSECOFR QSECOFR
**********************************

Selected function 21 from the pull out control panel

Press enter and control panel is now 21 00

Press enter again

Using ACS I still get a prompt for DST userid/password when I click
console for selected system

Expecting to be able to log on to DST with QSECOFR QSECOFR

Hmm. What am I missing?

Thx,

Jerry
