IBM recently introduced virtual serial #?s. Each LPAR can be assigned
a virtual serial # which is different than the physical server serial #.
All IBM I systems will have a serial number.

Subject: IBM i VMs without serial numbers?
I have a customer inquiring how licensing will work on a cloud system
that they claim may move from VM to VM and they don't have serial numbers.
Is this the case? For example, can some systems not have logical
serial numbers, and/or serial numbers and/or model numbers?
I have many customers on the cloud and this is the first I've heard of
this.
