I kind of wonder if one could use SQL CLI - the call-level interface -
in CL programs.
I wrote an RPG service program that simplifies the SQL CLI interface. We
use these "cursor" procedures in nearly every inquiry / maintenance
application we write. I much prefer that over embedding SQL in RPG code.

One could use CL CALLPRC to access SQL CLI procedures. For example:
CALLPRC PRC(CSRNEW) PARM((&VIEWNAME)) RTNVAL(&VIEWREF)
But rather than using CALLPRC, my inclination would be to write CL commands
that essentially mirror the SQL CLI procedures. For example:
CSRNEW NAME(&VIEWNAME) VIEWREF(&VIEWREF)
