Well you should then know that it depends on the encoding that you are
using to produce your csv file. IBM i uses EBCDIC normally and that is
totally different from ASCII. But the strange thing is that when you FTP
to an IBM i system, if you DON'T explicitly use the BIN command before your
download, it automatically converts your EBCDIC data to ASCII. What you
may be experiencing is the opposite: you may be producing your csv data in
actually ASCII or CCSID 1208 or the like and you are FTPing without the BIN
command which would cause your FTP connection to translate automatically to
ASCII and that is indeed weird and a total mess. That's the strange
characters you may be seeing.
