I can verify that it works. We have several partners with user names in that format. I think that they all run some version of globalscape. Maybe tied to that software. Works fine both in older sftp interfaces using spawn and expect to handle passwords, and with our interface engine from Nextgen/Mirth.

the @ sign separates the user id from the server name.
*Maybe* scp interprets the last @ sign in a line as the delimiter, I don't
know, but you don't have ids like that on a typical *nix system.
