Sounds logical. But then, I feel, I've already put more time and thinking effort into trying to optimize one single case (wildcards at the beginning) than it will ever save me. ;-)

Sure, but you're a hobbyist. We can't assume that *anything* you do on
this machine is for saving time or effort! ;)
