What are you using for your ftp client? If you're open to a free solution I might recommend FileZilla. Then you could try configuring SFTP on your IBM i. There's a couple of advantages to this.
1 - Your data is no longer going "in the clear" across the internet.
2 - Since you are using an encrypted form of communication I would hope that your firewall thingy might be cool with it.
