I guess you are right. It still feels like Hans was my spiritual
predecessor in that regard, but perhaps he came around slightly too
early to be able to really push for it on IBM midrange. (When he was
most actively singing Python's praises, Python itself was still a
maturing language, never mind the state of Per Gummedal's version.)

But it turns out I actually DID participate in at least one thread
with him on these lists! It was March of 2012 and someone had, yet
again, brought up the issue of RPG's prospects for the future.
Naturally, it got compared to other languages.

(I am sure I did not realize at the time just how fervent a Python fan
Hans was. In that thread, he seemed to give PHP at least equal if not
greater billing.)
