Re: Upgrade Question


At one of my contracts, we took 1 LPAR and loaded it directly with V7.2
lastest at the time). The system was at v5.4. The result was successful and
we were able to build a system that no longer carried forward old settings,
objects that were no longer usable, etc. There was the danger that
upgrading in place and then removing old stuff would lead to unpredicatble
results. The system that was upgraded, had been in place since version 2 of
the OS and as usual if it aint broke don't fix it was the issue.Clean up is
difficult and somewhat of a time bomb.


Going virgin, loading/restoring license programs, libraries required and
setting system values up front, permitted the review of everything and
surprisingly, we could just dump all that old stuff. QGPL and QUSRSYS
needed a major cleanup.

The OS has changed so much that the occasional cleanup may be advised.
