Hello Chris,

Am 23.07.2020 um 16:15 schrieb Wyatt, Chris (BWPKG-ROM) via MIDRANGE-L <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>:

We have an external windows server process that is building a zip file in an IFS directory. It is periodically failing due to, I suspect, poor performance/IO response on the IFS.

Can you elaborate on "failing"? Error messages? File leftovers?

I can conform this poor response by bringing up any large-ish IFS directory in Windows File Explorer on my PC. It's just really slow compared to a directory on a Windows server.

Yes, but this is something different. One thing is efficiency of directory structures. The other is how fast blocks can be shovelled. In general, hierarchical filesystems suffer performance starting with a few hundred objects in one folder.

Is there anything we can do to improve IFS performance/response with our Windows network?

Without knowing what you already *have*, making reasonable suggestions is hard.

This is my initial foray into dealing with this so I'm not sure of the questions I should be asking or the data I should be providing.

In general, when asking a question, it's better to provide as much evidence, and data you're able to collect. Especially with a broad topic like "IFS is slow, what can I do?" Also, collecting and preparing data makes you *think*, and often this yields in new ideas to try.
