It's not that hard to create your own schema (library), create some tables (files) in it and test.
It's not a bad way to learn a little about the database tooling available for IBM i. Since you sound new I would start out boldly and go with GUI tools like iACS.

Thing is about changed objects... if you have a huge table and change one row in that table that whole table counts as changed and it will save that whole table when you run SAVCHGOBJ. So, if you find that SAVCHGOBJ works really well for you then the odds are likely that you have a lot of old tables, journal receivers and other unused objects in your schema that are stagnant. For example, someone copied some large table for testing or archive a few months back and never got rid of it.
