I was thinking about creating a second job scheduled entry to be run on the first of each month, but populating the omit dates parameter with all the dates that are the first of each month that falls on a Saturday - going out for the next 10 years or so
There cant be THAT many

AFAIK, that is not possible with WRKJOBSCDE.
Why don't you create a small program that gets called each day and decides whether to execute or not your job (using the system date as a parameter)?
