times and this is the only way I got it to compile.


You tried this?

CHGVAR VAR(&FILELABEL) VALUE(%TRIM(&FILELABEL X'00'))

If so, then this should work -- first trims blanks, then low
values:

CHGVAR VAR(&FILELABEL) VALUE(%TRIM(%TRIM(&FILELABEL) X'00'))
