We have extensively used python to drive our sFTP scrips.

We have integrated pExpect in Python which gives you granular control of 
the process.

Python is a super powerful addition to the IBM I with its ability to 
issue sql commands to any db2 file on the I side and to run any IBM I 
command from within Python.
