The ports do not need a cross over cable.

Do you have a switch ? Just plug all the ports into the switch and your
laptop as well.

To eliminate ACS you could just use telnet from a windows command prompt
or putty.

If you can ping the address on the LAN you should be able to get a
connection and then you can check the console settings form sst.

This is a LAN connection NOT a console connection.



No twinax card in that box ?

I think the main issue is I can't log on because of some obscure error
using ACS either because the OS version is too old or something else. But
I can ping the LAN console IP.

I tried connecting using 5250 to the LAN console IP using ports 23, 2323,
3001, 3002, etc. I can hear the system grinding away but then it stop and
never connects or gives me a signon.

And as far as the other IP addresses that they system has, I know what
they
are but I can't ping them... and it's either because I don't know which
port on the back on the system to plug it into, and/or I'm not sure if I
can go right from my PC's ethernet port to the IBM i without a crossover
cable or hub.
