I heard about such a case-- In the trial IBM was always able to pull out the document they needed in moments, thanks to their index.

The government subpoenaed all of the records for the next case. But not the index. Which IBM (allegedly) wiped!

Lol - reminds me of IBM's anti-trust lawsuit (1969 or so) when they
reportedly showed up with cases and cases of paper reports in response
