So now I can connect to the sftp server using FileZilla and pase (with ssh).
So it is connect'able. :)

I also used pase ssh to connect to an iseries sftp server. There were no differences in the prompts.
So why won't the expect script work for both? But only works on the iseries?

That's frustrating. I get that you're juggling lots of pieces, and
having the one that you thought was a sure thing suddenly not be is
enough to drive someone mad.

But let's assume for now that you were not insane when you
successfully connected with FileZilla earlier. So we know that
*somehow* the server *can* be connected to.

The point of PuTTY is for you to log into your own i locally. PuTTY is
not taking the place of FileZilla; it's taking the place of ACS or
Client Access or iSeries Access or whatever it is you are using to
type commands into your i from your PC. The idea is to eliminate the
5250 as a possible source of problems. PuTTY will let you log into
your i (specifically PASE) without any 5250 interface whatsoever. Once
you are logged in with PuTTY, then you do your PASE commands in PASE,
typing into the PuTTY session, instead of typing into Client Access or
ACS.
