Evan,
I end all applications, then subsystems, then bring the LPAR to a
restricted state before issuing a
PWRDWNSYS OPTION(*CNTRLD) DELAY(60) RESTART(*YES) IPLSRC(B)

Hi Paul
Do you quiesce the applications on the Hosted Server or just run a
PWRDWNSYS *IMMED ? I am wondering if you don't shut everything down whether
doing that would help in terms of minimising what has to be shut down,
logged written to disk etc. as part of the Power Down operation. Something
of a guess really.
I used to have a look at the disk utilisation on the hosting system; if
that was really busy or did not have a lot of memory the shutdown time
could be somewhat extended - if nothing the disk PC busy from WRKDSKSTS
might give you some visibility or indication as to what is being done.
I never had a problem shutting down guested LPARS but some could take a
while especially if I was shutting down a number of them at the same time.

Yes, this is a hosted LPAR.
Yes, I believe this is related to storage management.
5 NSD with 6 NWS of 100gb each. 30 NWS total.
I don't anything special for these.
Is there any special shutdown procedures for NSD/NWS?

Paul:
You should be able to get the shutdown history prior to activating the
partition again.
In this case you will have to power all the way off, deactivate, then
the codes, now reactivate.up
This is a hosted partition correct? I'll bet that it's happening in
storage
management shutdown. If hosted, the Network Servers are not getting
varied
off too quickly are they? I've seen that happen when the process is set
with a CL.list

I had an issue on my R&D LPAR during power down, hung on a code, D9xxxxxx
(I
don't have the exact code).
This issue occurs on every power down.
I have open PMR with IBM, they need the exact code.
HMC Reference Code History only goes back to the last IPL.
Is there a setting that controls how long to keep the HMC code history?
Does this log start over on an IPL?
If not, anywhere else this can be obtained.
I'm doing another power down/IPL to recreate the error.
Thank You
